How a Nursing Home Works

The basis of this book is the report of a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the processes at TownHouse Extended Care, which shows the flow of information and henceforth loads of paperwork in a Nursing Home. Although not required of a nursing home this nursing home has accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations or JCAHO. It improves the paperwork process in nursing homes. Whereas in hospitals JCAHO surveys, that is it inspects the hospital for deficiencies. A JCAHO accredited nursing home tends to be a better nursing home.

In the years after my internship, I have continued to get 48 hours of continuing education per every two-year period to renew my license. I finally got a job as the Administrator of Record at Cedar Lodge Nursing Home in Center Moriches in 2008. Since then I have had experiences at seven nursing homes whether as a consultant or for caring for a loved one. I have kept up with the latest developments and have put them into this book along with the foundation of knowledge I built at TownHouse Extended Care.
